In this conversation, Jim Glaser, also known as Costume Jim, shares how Costume Kult and Costume Network grew out of the simple joy of dressing up and showing up together.
What starts as a playful New York Halloween parade tradition becomes a bigger story about participatory culture, community building, and using spectacle to break down barriers.
His approach makes activism feel accessible…not just something you believe in, but something you can live, laugh through, and share with other people.
What makes the episode especially energizing is the idea that fun can be a serious organizing tool. From leprechaun protests to zombie marches, Jim shows how costumes, creativity, and collective play can carry a message further than anger alone.
It’s an inspiring reminder that movements grow faster when people feel connected, seen, and excited to participate—and that joy itself can be a form of resistance.
